About the Event

This lecture: On December 2, 2021, Aidan will conduct a lecture on the past, present, and future of the R2P norm. This lecture will describe how the norm developed, how R2P has been implemented in several case studies, and why the norm is more needed than ever for protecting human rights at home and abroad. We'll also discuss UN frameworks and NGOs. The discussion will be quite informal, so bring questions about all things R2P or UN!

The speaker: Aidan McGirr is an intern with FN-förbundet in the department of peace, security, and disarmament. Specializing in atrocity prevention and the Responsibility to Protect, Aidan had previously interned with the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect before his current role with FN-förbundet. He also spent years working with refugees and asylum-seekers through medical clinics and facilities in the United States, Sweden, Germany and Jordan. Aidan is now studying a master's in Ethnic and Migration Studies at Linköpings Universitet concurrent with his internship.

This lecture will be held: Date: 2nd of december Time: 17 pm to 18 pm (CET) Location: Sal 1 at Östermalms föreningsråd, Valhallavägen 148, Stockholm Language: English
