About the Event
This lecture:
In recent years, the Chinese government’s long-standing repression of the Uyghurs in the northwest region of Xinjiang has reached unprecedented levels. A recent Human Rights Watch report details how authorities are committing crimes against humanity - among the gravest abuses under international law - including mass arbitrary detention, torture, enforced disappearances, mass surveillance, cultural and religious erasure, separation of families, forced returns to China, forced labor, and sexual violence and violations of reproductive rights. Up to a million people are being held in “counter-extremism centres” (internment camps) in Xinjiang.
Who are the Uyghur people? What is happening in China? And what can we do about it? Join our lecture to get the answers! You will get the opportunity to listen to a personal experience and story, as well as the possibility to ask your own questions. We promise, you do not want to miss this!
